A venue like no other

The FLYING STAGE lives high in the rafters above the retail sales floor at ReSource-VT in Barre. By day, this cavernous building, once part of the local granite industry, is now an environmentally friendly retail outlet for used and recycled household goods.

But at show time, the floorspace is converted in a matter of hours to a 150-seat performance venue. Sales stock is cleared away, rows of chairs appear, and the stage is lowered down from the ceiling using 5-ton granite cranes, chains and skilled person-power. Let the show begin!

Creative “spacecraft”

The Flying Stage anchors an area within Re-SOURCE VT's Barre facility which — in the planning stages — we dubbed “The Re-SPACE.” It offers space for crafting creative collaborations of many kinds. We blend emerging talent and voices with top trending names of our region — from Barre to Burlington, and Boston to Brooklyn. We aim to partner with other businesses and organizations to recreate a hub of inviting neighborhood life. We feel an alliance wi th Barre’s civic character, formed by its melting pot of transplanted tradespeople and artists with world class skills, a granite-hard work ethic and close-knit communities. In this city, long known for its boisterous political and community contrasts, the citizenry of Barre has always found unity in the ideals of artistic culture and the pursuit of social change.

Youthbuilder

The Flying Stage in the new performance venue known as ReSPACE came about through stewardship and support of musician, producer, and patron of the arts Diana Levine, in partnership with the non-profit community enterprise ReSOURCE-VT. It was built with the help of YouthBuild of Barre, Vermont, and many willing hands from the community.
